Southland, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Fixed Term/Secondment Opportunities to 30 May 2026 - multiple roles available
- A once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of implementing significant resource management reform for Aotearoa
- Join a collaborative team who value and foster Te Ao Māori me te Tiriti
- Flexible location and flexible/remote ways of working

Mō te tūranga mahi | About the roles
MfE's Policy Implementation and Delivery (PID) rōpū has a stewardship role in enabling environmental policy intention into positive reality. PID leads the planning and management of policy implementation, bringing together integrated partnerships with iwi/Māori, partner agencies, local government, councils, industry and the scientific community to achieve collaborative, transformational delivery of environmental reforms.
We have a unique opportunity for a number of Kaitātari and Kaitātari Matua to help ensure a smooth transition to, and effective implementation of the future resource management (RM) system that delivers on the principles of te Tiriti and provides greater recognition of te ao Māori, including mātauranga Māori.
The roles will be focused on overall RM transition and regional implementation for Māori, working within specific regions to understand and support enhanced Māori participation in resource management.
You will support partnership at a regional level to facilitate greater participation in the RM system. This involves working closely with iwi and hapū and Māori groups to understand what is needed to implement the resource management system, to provide the support needed and to create regional transition plans.
The work brings an opportunity to influence resource management outcomes and Crown delivery of resource management programmes. It will include research, collaboration and engagement with partners in region, responsibility for key projects, and providing high-quality advice and briefings to senior leaders and Ministers.
These roles sit within our Policy Alignment Team in our Resource Management Reform - Māori Partnering and Policy Directorate and offer an opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge and exposure to significant policy reform with an implementation lens.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
The nature of our working environment can be fast-paced and ambiguous, so your flexibility and adaptability to navigate multiple and changing priorities is critical.

- A strong delivery focus - you have the ability to think strategically across systems and effectively navigate and deliver against multiple competing priorities.
- Ability to provide leadership, coordination and coaching to junior members of the division and team, to build their capability.
