We are seeking two pro-active and experienced Principal Advisors to help shape and lead our newly established Inquiries Response Team here at the Ministry of Justice.
Principal Advisors are responsible for leading the development of high-quality work across the Inquiries Response Team to support the Ministry to deliver on its obligations to these Inquiries and maximise the opportunities they provide.
Forward-thinking, agile and adept at problem solving, you will lead with influence to achieve strategic outcomes, as well as deliver multiple, complex pieces of research advisory and policy work, and provide work programme management.

**To be successful in the role, you will**:

- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Be a natural communicator and excel at internal and external stakeholder engagement
- Have experience leading multiple pieces of work concurrently and actively, and independently planning and managing workload
- Be able to manage a variety of tasks concurrently, show flexibility, and the ability to re-prioritise workload
- Have experience providing advice in a public sector organisation and demonstrable experience in a relevant field
- Have a good understanding of the Waitangi Tribunal's processes, particularly in relation to Kaupapa Inquiries, and Royal Commission of Inquiries' processes
- Have a good understanding of and be committed to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Have an understanding of, and experience with, te Ao Māori and tikanga

A tertiary degree in a relevant field and good understanding of the machinery of government would be useful.

At Te Tāhū o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice, we're committed to working together for a fair and safe Aotearoa.
You will be part of the Inquiries Response Team, housed within the Policy Group at the Ministry of Justice.
The Policy Group is responsible for the provision of all policy-related services to the government, providing well-researched advice on a range of justice related issues. The Group is supported by the advisory Business Services Unit and administrative support team of Executive and Administrative support personnel.
The Inquires Response holds responsibility for coordinating and managing the Ministry's response to Inquiries. There are currently three Inquiries underway that require the Ministry's participation, and will require Ministry-wide engagement and resources, and for which the team is responsible:

- The Waitangi Tribunal's Te Rau o te Tika: The Justice System Kaupapa Inquiry
- The Waitangi Tribunal's Constitutional, Self-Government, Electoral System Kaupapa Inquiry
- The Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVIDo-19 Lessons

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $124,397 and $161,225 based on skills and experience.
