About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
This position has a primary sector focus and is located out of our Cromwell office.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Central Otago team and make a real difference to the engagement, progress and wellbeing of children and young people. As part of this role, you will be required to travel domestically with the possibility of overnight stays.

The Curriculum Lead service is a frontline support that works closely with teachers and kaiako to assist with the designing of engaging and responsive curriculum learning that ensures national learning priorities are experienced by every ākonga or learner enabling them to see their cultures, languages, and identities reflected in their learning.

This is an opportunity to work closely with teachers and kaiako to assist with the design of engaging and responsive curriculum learning that ensures national learning priorities are experienced by every ākonga or learner. You will be part of a regional team within Te Mahau, and working closely with your sector to support:

- Taking practical action to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Giving priority to regional and local voice
- Delivering greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support
- Improving feedback loops and information flows

The existing Curriculum Lead service was established through the Wellbeing 2020 budget to ensure every ākonga or learner experiences well designed curriculum which engages learners, promotes progress, and fosters their wellbeing.
The Curriculum Lead service is being extended to strengthen the existing service, to aid education sector leaders, kaiako and teachers to implement the changes associated with the curriculum refresh and the connection between wellbeing, te reo matatini me te pāngarau, literacy & communication and maths learning outcomes. These positions will support the implementation of the Literacy & Communication and Maths strategy and Hei Raukura Mō te Mokopuna.

About you | Mōhou ake
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

**You will also demonstrate**:

- Proven credibility with the education sector and confidence in implementing literacy & communication or maths teaching (early learning, primary or secondary) or te reo matatini or pāngarau teaching (kaupapa Māori or Māori medium) is essential for this role.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the New Zealand Curriculum for primary teaching and learning, assessment theory and practice, with an ability to support professional change in education settings.
- The ability to confidently use Māori bodies of knowledge and experience to inform and improve the design of curriculum, including the championing of Mana Ōrite mō te mātauranga Māori.
- Familiarity with te ao Māori and understanding of Te Reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori, critical for Curriculum Leads working in kaupapa Māori and Māori medium.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of education contexts at a practical level.
- Strong diplomacy, interpersonal and facilitation skills, with an ability to adapt to different interaction styles and contexts.
- Skills in leading and motivating others, with the ability to challenge, facilitate, supervise, and coach, kaiako and teachers to build capability, and where necessary, for change.
- Proven experience of supporting education settings to build and maintain educationally powerful, reciprocal, and trusting relationships with Māori whānau, hapū and iwi, Pacific, and other communities.
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
