We are looking for a **Project Controls Specialist** to join our Engineering & Projects team at NZAS. You’ll play a critical role in providing support for scoping, planning and scheduling, finance, cost control, and reporting to ensure successful delivery of multi-disciplined capital projects in a timely manner.

You’ll be part of a friendly team, supported by your leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team. You’ll work an 8am-4pm shift with the option of a 9-day fortnight, which will give you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Engineering and Projects, and working in a collaborative community within the Engineering department, you will be:

- Work in collaboration with the Superintendent of Engineering & Projects to work in continuous improvements in project controls to achieve safe and successful completions of business priorities at NZAS with grounded values in Rio Tinto’s Everyday Respect
- Engage with various stakeholders to define work plans, analyse actuals against forecasts, contribute in-scope, scope control, schedules, plan finalisation.
- Implement standard project control services across the capital portfolio such as reporting, risk management, financial control and monitoring, data integration, schedule and cost control, incorporating Earned Value Management and wider knowledge of industry best practice.
- Support in determining priorities goals and objectives of the projects, track and form project budgets.
- Monitor and manage financial control functions of the portfolio and prepare financial plans, reports, cost estimates, forecast and analysis.
- Participate, organise and take part in workshops, reviews, strategy planning, directions, structure and approach to focus on value and anticipated outcome

- Ability to work closely with Stakeholders, Capital and Risk Management, Procurement Management and Project Delivery team to ensure safe and successful projects’ deliveries
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in a related discipline preferred

**Where you’ll be working**

New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) converts alumina into aluminium using renewable hydroelectricity, resulting in one of the lowest carbon footprints for an aluminium smelter in the world. The smelter is located on Tiwai Peninsula in Southland and the majority of the plant's alumina is supplied from our Yarwun and Queensland Alumina Limited refineries. Around 90% of the aluminium produced at NZAS is exported. NZAS is a joint venture owned by Rio Tinto (79.36%) and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical Comp
