We need experienced policy analysts to join our teams working to make our experiences safer, empower New Zealanders and promote our democratic values and freedoms.

We also have a unique opportunity for graduates to join a graduate intake. As a graduate in the Policy Group, you will be exposed to and work on a range of policy areas across the group. In your first year you will complete two six-month rotations in different teams. Throughout this time, you will be involved in a programme of learning and development. The starting salary for graduates is $69,336. At the end of your first year, your salary and performance will be reviewed.

We have opportunities available in the following teams:

- **Digital policy **- Join a team that is focused on shaping future opportunities in the digital space, including Artificial Intelligence. The team is responsible for delivering regulations for the Digital Identity Services Trust Framework Act and working alongside colleagues establishing the regulatory function for this Act. The team also provides policy support to the Government Chief Digital Officer who has responsibility for leading government uptake of digital technology along with providing advice to the Minister for the Digital Economy and Communications.
- **Identity Policy**:

- The team ensure identity frameworks are modern and inclusive. We work alongside the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths and Marriages and colleagues in the Service Delivery and Operations branch. We are currently working alongside other government agencies to reform surrogacy and adoption laws, and recently passed changes to make it easier for trans, non-binary, intersex and takatāpui people to change the gender on their birth certificate.
- **Community Wellbeing Policy **- Following the passing of amendments to the Charities Act, the team is working on related regulations to support new functions under the Act. The team is also focusing on setting the strategic direction for the Community and Voluntary Sector portfolio into the next term of government to ensure we are supporting thriving communities. As part of this team, you can also work on various regulatory issues to support the operation of Fire and Emergency, particularly to ensure funding for the critical services it provides.
- **Gambling and Racing Policy **- The team focuses on developing policies that ensure gambling in New Zealand is fair and safe, as well as supporting a sustainable racing industry. Most recently we have delivered regulatory changes that will reduce harm from pokie machines and are now focused on a potential review of the Gambling Act 2003, as well as issues around greyhound racing industry in New Zealand. Being an analysts in this team provides an opportunity to grapple with some difficult issues such as online gambling, advertising and how we can effectively minimise harm across the gambling system. It will also involve opportunities to engage with a range of stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, casinos, gambling harm service providers and racing industry stakeholders.
- **Media Content and Online Safety policy **- The team are focused on shaping policies that protect and empower New Zealanders in the digital age. The team is reviewing the way we regulate media and online content from newspapers to social media. At the end of the process, we will recommend and ultimately implement long-lasting changes that will make us safer in global dynamic media and online environment. The project includes extensive research, regulatory design, stakeholder and international engagement and legislation development.
- As a Policy Analyst at Te Tari Taiwhenua you will work as part of a team to prepare evidence-based advice for ministers and senior leaders in the public service. _

You will need a relevant degree that demonstrates your critical thinking training, policy analysis experience or transferrable skills, and an excellent communication style.

You will have an interest in legislative processes. You’ll have a curious mindset that is motivated by solving problems and you’re committed to continuous learning.

Community and stakeholder engagement is a big part of what we do. You will need to be comfortable working with communities, industry and international stakeholders.
