Toolmaker / Fitter Turner

My client is a highly successful New Zealand-owned company for over 50 years, based in Wellington. They are a well-established manufacturer of agricultural fencing products, abattoir equipment and harvest blades, supplying to both domestic and export markets. With a reputation for understanding their customers, they are continuously delivering the best results to the market.
The company is looking to bring on board a sharp and motivated Toolmaker to join their team based in Upper Hutt.
**About the role**:
- Work as part of a team to ensure the building and maintenance of ongoing tools.
- Assist in the ongoing development of the company's product range.
- Manufacture press tools, plastic injection moulds, welding jigs and bespoke machinery to drawing specifications.
- Complete routine repairs and maintenance on all tooling and machinery.
- Use conventional milling machines, lathes, surface grinders and other toolroom equipment.
- Program and manufacture components and parts on CNC milling machines.
- Occasionally repair or assist with breakdowns on factory production machines.
- Fabricate components, structures or jigs by means of CO2, MIG or Arc welding.
**About you**:
- You will have the ability to fabricate from a drawing and be able to read and be able to follow engineering drawings, rough sketches or CAD-based
- You will have a minimum of 5 years experience with relevant qualifications.
- Have proven experience with assembling, fitting and repairing both plastic injection molding and press tools.
- You will have an understanding of both pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Able to use precision measurement instruments.
- Have strong problem-solving skills to attend machine breakdowns and identify the root cause
- Be physically strong for demanding tasks such as lifting steel components.
- Able to work collectively in a team environment or on your own.
- Have excellent attendance records and timekeeping.
**The following attributes are desirable, but not essential**:
- Experience operating 3 & 4 axis CNC milling machines (Okuma)
- Knowledge of 3D solid modeling (Solid Edge)
- Ability to use proprietary CAM software (Powermill)
- Welding skills in MIG, TIG or ARC would be advantageous, or willingness to learn.
**Benefits**:
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7:45am - 4.15pm. On offer is a generous hourly wage, any OT is paid at a flat rate, laptop and phone, work uniform, overalls, boots and all PPE are provided.
