It will include a modern library, customer services hub and recreation and sports centre. Offering a multi-purpose lane pool, family spa pool, multi-purpose rooms for activities and for quiet study, as well as a café. An important hub for the community.

Our Learn to swim programme teaches children valuable life skills and our instructors are responsible for maximising their aquatic learning experience.

We ask a lot of our instructors, as you're required to set the energy for each class and you're always on alert, however in return, you are valued for the amazing work you do. Our experienced leaders have swum the hard yards and know the energy, effort, and passion that goes into every single lesson. Job satisfaction is different for everyone, but when you see the smile on the children's faces after they succeed in your class, we promise that feeling is priceless

In return for your hard work, we offer a nationally recognised qualification, continued on-the-job and quarterly trainings. Each teacher can feel confident knowing that before teaching your own classes, you'll have the opportunity to shadow and learn the skills you need to change the lives of your students. Your Team Leader and Supervisor will continue to support you as you develop your craft.

"You don't need a background in teaching/coaching or swimming - just a love of the water. Full training is provided. What's important is that you're a logical thinker and are always one step ahead. You are keen to learn and are passionate about teaching people of all ages. Most of all, you will be at home in the water. This programme offers you the potential for growth and other opportunities within our Recreation & Sports unit.
- Successful applicants must hold a current Comprehensive First Aid Certificate covering unit standards 6400, 6401 and 6402. This can be obtained prior to the commencement of employment, at your own cost.
- Successful applicants will be required to have NZ Certificate in Aquatics (Swim and Water Safety Teacher) Level 3. Should you not have this qualification then you will be required to attend training prior to the commencement of employment and complete ongoing training to ensure you complete your qualification within six months.
- Training dates to be confirmed with the successful applicants. This is a two-day course and is paid for by the Christchurch City Council, however, your time will be unpaid.
