We are a member of the Clemenger Group of companies, and we work very closely with our sister company in Australia, GRACosway.
We are an ambitious and growing agency supporting clients on both sides of the Tasman.
We are seeking a Wellington-based associate who will support our government relations activity servicing a diverse range of clients. You'll get to do other work too, as the newest member of our full-service consultancy.
Through our government relations and related activity we help our clients to understand and interact with the world of government. This is important work at any time but assumes new significance and urgency in an election year.

Who are we looking for?
You will be a few years into your consultancy or communications career.
Experience working at parliament or a government agency, ideally in a communications or advisory role, would be a distinct advantage.
You may already have worked in the private sector too.
You may already be working at another consultancy, and are now looking for new opportunities at an ambitious agency that draws on the advantages and contacts of the Clemenger Group here and in Australia.
You will have a keen interest in politics and New Zealand's political history, the machinery of government and current affairs.
You will be a capable and confident writer, and comfortable working at a face pace, to tight deadlines and at times autonomously.
You will proactively seek out opportunities to support our Wellington-based director, who leads our company's government relations practise, and will also be able to pitch in and assist your Auckland-based colleagues on a variety of client and associated support work.
Your work will encompass research and analysis, and preparation of materials that support the wider team and our diverse range of clients including proposals, presentations and briefing materials.
You will help provide accurate and timely updates on events, announcements and developments across a range of sectors of interest to our clients.
You will be hungry to do the best work you can to support our growing agency.

Core competencies, skills and abilities
- Three to five years of work experience
- Ability to write to a high standard in a format that's suitable for clients, government relations stakeholders and internal audiences
- An understanding of the news media cycle and its relevance to government relations
- Experience in the parliamentary environment would be an advantage
- An understanding of New Zealand's political history
- A high standard of personal organisation
- Attention to detail
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Ability to think critically about government policy and the associated opportunities (and risks) for our clients
- Confident and articulate
- Some experience in helping to plan and manage events (for example, hostings) client/stakeholder/suppliers would be an advantage too
