Northland Region Corrections Facility (NRCF) - Offender Employment (OE) is looking for a General Instructor to join our team. We are looking for a talented “people person” who can cope with change, is adaptable to dynamic work environments, has high moral standards and believes in the power of communication to make positive changes in a wide range of people's lives.
Our current team works closely with all areas of the business and has a reputation for producing high quality work while delivering relevant, useful, recognised training. For those prisoners who choose to pursue a career in warehousing, transport and logistics post-release, the training and practical experience they gain will help them to secure employment.

Our instructors are expected to hold, or to be willing to gain, unit standard 4098 in adult education, or equivalent.
Ngā kawenga | About the role
OE's purpose is to provide the men in our care with quality trade-based training and to assist them to continue to develop a depth of skill and experience to gain employment post release. At NRCF, you will be instrumental in providing prisoners with both an employment pathway and assist them to develop the work habits, experience and skills sought after by industry employers.
In this varied role you will be working with the men in our care, helping them gain new skills and qualifications to improve their chances of finding real jobs upon release. You will enable our people to achieve NZQA qualifications, and provide a platform of good working habits to take forward to the future. You will further support rehabilitation and reintegration practices.

In this role you will be instrumental in helping individuals to discover a new career path, talent, passion or simply build confidence in their ability to learn.
Instructors are expected to hold or, with the appropriate experience, be willing to gain unit standard 4098 in adult education. The hours of work will be on a rostered shift basis of 80 hours per fortnight. Public Holidays with the possibility of some overtime or callouts may be required.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
As a General Instructor your role is multi-layered, you will have custodial responsibilities, industry-based responsibilities (including health and safety) and training responsibilities.
- A full NZ Driver Licence and First Aid Certificate (before job commencement) is required
- A willingness to turn your hand to a wide range of tasks and to assist in all the various prison industries as required is essential
- Experience as an adult educator or hold an assessor's qualification (4098) is an advantage
- Proactive, energetic team leader/player who inspires others to perform at their best
- Can remain positive and resilient in a constantly changing environment
A comprehensive introduction into Corrections and extensive initial training is provided for the successful applicant. This will involve on/off-site training to focus on the custodial elements of the position.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The entry level salary for this role is $62,014 - $70,376. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
