We have an exciting opportunity for two Cooks to join our team at a busy restaurant located in Porirua, Wellington. This is a fantastic chance to be part of a friendly and dynamic team.
Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand, or they must be New Zealand Citizens or Resident class visa holders.
**Job duties**:
- Carry out all necessary tasks for food preparation, including seasoning and cooking.
- Take responsibility for cooking a variety of Indian curries and tandoori dishes.
- Monitor and adjust cooking equipment temperatures throughout the cooking process.
- Maintain and uphold food quality standards consistently.
- Prepare gravies and sauces according to business requirements.
- Store food appropriately in chillers and freezers as needed.
- Conduct stocktaking and report findings to the Chef.
- Assist in recipe development and food presentation.
- Aid in determining serving sizes and ensuring meal quality.
- Ensure proper presentation, portioning, and garnishing of food.
- Accommodate customer requests for special dietary requirements in food preparation.
- Verify the freshness of food and ingredients regularly.
- Adhere to New Zealand health standards for cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen.
- Uphold hygiene practices at all times.
- Provide training to other kitchen staff when necessary.
**To be considered for this position, applicants should meet the following criteria**:
- Have 1 to 2 years of work experience in a similar role or hold relevant level 2 or 3 qualifications.
- Demonstrate expertise in preparing authentic Indian curries and tandoori cuisines, including snacks.
- Display flexibility in working within a 7-day operation that may involve split shifts.
- Be available and willing to work on weekends.
- Exhibit the ability to work effectively as part of a team and take direction from supervisors.
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Possess a positive and proactive attitude, along with a strong work ethic.
