Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Waikato is looking for an exceptional Health Promoter to raise awareness of and participation in the free national bowel screening programme in our area, prioritising engagement with Māori and Pacific communities.
The Health Promoter plays a crucial role in planning, leading and coordinating events and education sessions. Combining your established community networks and ability to engage with our eligible age group - 50-74 year olds, you will make a genuine difference and improve outcomes for whānau and ‘aiga.
Day to day you will:
- Encourage and inspire people in their hauora screening practices, principally to complete their test kits for the bowel-screening programme.
- Complete targeted outreach phone calling with participants.
- Network with diverse organisations and workplaces, and build local collaborations with key community stakeholders.
- Maintain strong and effective relationships with health and social community groups.
- Carry out promotional activities and projects.
This is a full time 1.0 FTE permanent position where you will work Monday to Friday, and be available for intermittent evening and weekend work, both locally and across the wider Waikato region when required.
**About the Service**
Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Waikato promotes the national bowel screening programme with eligible people - Māori and Pacific people between the age range of 50-74 years old, and everyone else in the age range of 60-74 years old.
Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora expects to achieve bowel cancer screening rates of 60% for all eligible people.
The current participation rate for eligible Māori living in the Waikato area is 43%, and for eligible Pacific people is 38%.
The Bowel Screening Community team are passionate and committed to increasing these participation rates. We are a dynamic and innovative team, resourceful and highly motivated. We work collaboratively to develop community-driven approaches to hauora education and awareness.
**About you**
- **Essential**:
- Have established community networks and engagement experience with Māori and / or Pacific communities
- Background in health promotion and / or education, and have worked in a health setting for more than 2 years.
- Demonstrated experience in problem solving and delivering on innovative solutions.
- Full New Zealand Driver’s License.
- Proven excellent communication skills.
- **Desirable**:
- Under-graduate education in a health care profession.
- Event management experience.
- Communications, design or social media experience.
