About the internship programme - Mo te kaupapa
Our summer internship programme provides internships across multiple agencies that are located throughout New Zealand working in their corporate health, safety, and wellbeing teams (HSW). This year our cohort will comprise of 13 internship in total across nine host agencies.
There is one internship placement on offer in Tauranga. Please refer to the attached recruitment guide (recruitment guide to be added shortly) for details host agency information.
Each internship placement will provide practical work experience and knowledge, working alongside a supportive team which will offer opportunities to contribute to the HSW team's wider work programme and day to day tasks.
The programme runs from 18 November 2024 to the 14 February 2025. Interns will be employed on a fixed-term contract by one of our host agencies. All interns are expected to work full time (40 hours a week Monday to Friday), for up to 14 weeks.
Who are we looking for? - Ko te tangata mo tēnei tūranga?
We do not expect our interns to have any prior health and safety knowledge or experience, however, having relevant study and an interest and open mind in this field is a plus.
To be sucesful in as a Government Health & Safety Intern, you will:

- Be studying in New Zealand for a diploma or undergraduate degree in the following fields: health science, occupational health and safety, health promotion, public health, Pacific and Māori health, global health, psychology, or human resources, environmental science, criminology, or another area of study related to the Health, Safety and Wellbeing intern programme.
- Betransitioning to their fourth/final year of undergraduate study or graduating, who have completed papers in a related area of study to health, safety, and wellbeing.
- Demonstrat a keen interest in exploring a career in the Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
- Demonstrat a good work ethic, is comfortable working on their own and in a team environment.
- Be available for full time work Monday to Friday from 18 November 2024 to 14 February 2025.
- Be eigible to live, study and work in New Zealand.
