**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
An exciting, fixed term opportunity is available for a Policy Advisor to join the Energy Use Policy team where you will be providing policy and operational support to the Community & Household Use component of the team.

As a Policy Advisor you will primarily provide support to the Community Renewable Energy Fund and Innovation Fund, which seek to enhance energy resilience for New Zealand communities. The Funds seeks to help lower energy costs and build greater resilience to natural hazards for target communities (e.g., storm events that may interrupt electricity supply), which may be delivered through collaboration with target communities, and to support innovative projects to help manage peak network demand and improve network resilience.

You will also provide support, in the form of briefings and ministerial service requests, on other Community & Household Use issues, including energy hardship related issues, community and home electrification, enquiries, policy support on energy consumer issues, etc.

**About the Branch**:
Our energy system is at the centre of Aotearoa’s decarbonisation challenge. The Energy and Resource Markets (ERM) branch of around 150 professionals is responsible for providing strategic, policy and regulatory advice on energy markets, operational regulation, and compliance services. We have an ambitious and exciting work programme to lead the energy and resource sector’s transition to a low-emissions economy.

To help New Zealand get to net zero emissions by 2050 we need changes to the way electricity is generated, the type of energy we use, and how we use it. This includes the energy we use to power our homes and drive our cars and the energy used by industry and businesses.

**Skills and Experience Required**

We are looking for a motivated person with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, who is comfortable with ambiguity, and able to deliver results.

You will have a good tertiary qualification and ideally:

- Experience and knowledge of the energy sector is desirable, but not a requirement
- experience working on government funding programmes
- able to build requisite knowledge for different policy issues quickly drawing on information and evidence from multiple and diverse sources
- excellent written and oral communication skills with an eye for detail
- a collaborative approach to working with others and experience in working effectively with Ministers, public service officials, internal and external stakeholders
