Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity It is an exciting time for all things related to driver licensing at Waka Kotahi, and this is a great opportunity to join a newly established team where your love for building relationships and working alongside communities will see you facilitate, co-design and deliver tailored road safety resources and seamless driver licence options, through active participation and partnership. This is a great opportunity to undertake meaningful work. As a Regional Advisor here at Waka Kotahi, your ability to engage with iwi, hāpu and whānau and having strong, established links across the region and within the community, will be essential in developing and leading initiatives, alongside regional and local community providers to provide meaningful, sustainable safer driver outcomes and driver licensing products and services in the future. You will help connect people with Waka Kotahi and champion our reputation through best practice engagement and communications. This is a busy and varied role; you will be required to travel often. Having a clean, full driver licence will be required. You will be a strong people person, able to have uncomfortable conversations while focusing on the best levers to achieve best practice and regulatory compliance outcomes. To be successful in this role you will bring:

- A high level of understanding Te ao Māori, me onā tikanga Māori/ Māori world view and Māori customs
- Experience in how the driver licensing system works
- Strong relationship management skills, able to build and sustain relationships from actively listening, learning, and having respect for others view and journeys
- The ability to adapt your approach to different situations to get the best outcome

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding and appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi, as it applies in the public sector. Ko wai mātou | About us The Safer Drivers business group sits within Te Roopu Waeture, we are the custodians for access into the land transport system. With this guardianship role comes a responsibility to always act with safety in mind. Our purpose is to ensure we place competent drivers on New Zealand roads. We do this through assessing the safety and the fitness and propriety of those providing driver licensing, Classes 1 to 6 and driver licence endorsements. We also provide a range of driver licensing services and products that assist users to maintain or upgrade their licences, through to assisting a user to improve their driver education, awareness, and skill uptake. We work with a clear line of sight to Road to Zero. We educate, engage, and monitor users on the correct use of the system, and of their responsibility for compliance.
