Auckland City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Do you want to support Aotearoa New Zealand's transition to a low-emissions economy?
- Do you thrive in collaborative teams where you need to draw on the expertise of a wide range of colleagues to come to the best solution to a policy problem?
- We are looking for two experienced Senior Policy Advisors or Analysts to help set the direction for Aotearoa New Zealand's critical energy infrastructure.

Our Infrastructure Regulation branch is looking for two experienced Senior Policy Advisors or Analysts. These are permanent positions - one in our Transpower and Gas team and the other in our Electricity Distribution team, based in either our Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) or Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office.
From ensuring our critical infrastructure is resilient to natural disasters to supporting the transition to Net Zero - these roles will see you leading projects that tackle some of the biggest challenges facing Aotearoa New Zealand today.
Join us in the Commerce Commission's Infrastructure Regulation Branch to be a part of a friendly, collaborative, and high-performing team that is focussed on your development and will empower you to have a real impact on businesses and consumers across the country.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
Our Infrastructure Regulation Branch is focussed on delivering long term benefits for consumers in the infrastructure markets that they regulate.
These two roles will see you working in the teams in the Branch that are responsible for regulating New Zealand's gas distribution, electricity distribution and electricity transmission businesses. You will be involved in projects that will help shape how Aotearoa New Zealand's energy system meets the challenges of decarbonisation and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The teams oversee important functions, such as preventing the regulated businesses from making excessive profits and ensuring that they have the right incentives to innovate and invest in the services that their consumers need both now and in the future.
He kōrero mōu | About you
A true team player, you'll be experienced working in a fast-paced environment and bring a proactive and solutions-focused approach. You'll be able to think, write and communicate clearly, offer sound critical thinking skills and be comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels.

**You will also bring the following**:

- Ability to think clearly and make decisions in areas of ambiguity
- Excellent communication skills, including report-writing; an ability to explain complex problems in a relatable manner
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills that support the development of robust advice to senior decision makers
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills; highly collaborative and can work effectively with colleagues across a diverse organisation.

While knowledge of the energy sector or infrastructure regulation would be helpful, we know that a diverse team with a range of life and work experiences enables high performance and innovation. So if you aren't sure if your experience aligns with the role - please feel free to contact us to ask any questions you might have. Your work experience might include one of the following:

- policy analysis
- economic or legal analysis/advice
- regulatory analysis/advice
- professional services - including accounting, legal, or consulting

A university degree in a relevant field (e.g. accounting, engineering, economics, commerce, political science, public policy, law, science, or statistics) is preferred but not required.
