Grader Operator/ Machinery Operator

5 days/30 - 50 hrs per week or On call

Proven experience operating heavy equipment is a must, however training to operate the grader will be provided. The successful applicant will also receive training for operating a snow groomer for road clearing.

Experience or an aptitude for equipment maintenance and construction type work is considered an advantage. You will join a small core team of skilled and dedicated staff whose focus is on delivering safe and efficient operation of the ski area and its facilities over the winter operating season.

The role will be responsible for road maintenance and snow clearing over the winter season. Various other machinery work and basic equipment maintenance tasks will also be a part of this role. Night shifts and early morning starts will be required for road clearing to ensure that ski area is open on time for each operating day. The successful applicant needs to be comfortable working flexible work hours and to be engaged in a varied range of work tasks.

The primary equipment for road clearing is a Cat 130G grader. The company also owns and operates a 20T Hitachi Excavator plus 3 PB snowcats.

Key responsibilities:

- Operate Grader as required for snow clearing and road maintenance
- Be available for early starts and or night shifts during storms and weather events
- Pre and post operation checks
- Operate snowcat to clear bulk snow from access road
- Communicate with other departments for plans and safe operations at night and during storms
- Check the road and contribute opinion for chain call and road status
- General maintenance on Grader and tyre chains
- Adhere to company policies and procedures with respect to Health and Safety

A little about you:

- Hold a current class 2 licence. Tracks & Wheels endorsements
- Construction or farming industry experience
- Demonstrates awareness of the ‘Health and safety in the workplace act 2015’
- Friendly, personable, and comfortable working with people
- Likes snow

**Pay Rates****:
Pay rates start from $22.70 per hour but of course this varies depending on position and experience. Hours of work and length of employment can vary with weather and snow conditions. We only employ people who can make a commitment for the entire season. During the peak season most full-time employees can expect to work 5-6 days per week and 35-40 hours.

**Accommodation****:
We can assist Team with finding accommodation in the Springfield area, though all employees are responsible for finding their own accommodation for the season unless otherwise specified by Porters Team. Transport from Springfield to and from the ski area is provided.
