Arohata Prison is a world-class, innovative and dynamic women’s prison that offers exceptional health services to its inmates. As the preferred provider for nurse staffing for the Department of Corrections, we are looking for dedicated Nurses to join our team and provide high-quality healthcare to the inmates. This role is mainly that of a Primary Care Nurse, and you will work in a challenging but rewarding environment that offers excellent career prospects and educational opportunities.

**Job Description**:
We are looking for a core group of 3-4 nurses to provide care at Arohata Prison. Roles are available for temp/casual or permanent staff, but you will be willing to commit to regular work for 2-3 days per week.

Nursing at Ara Poutmana Aotearoa offers many unique opportunities to develop and practise your skills in a wide range of clinical areas. On any given day, Registered Nurse’s working in the prison health centres provide a full range of primary health care services. You will assess and manage people with a variety of health issues, challenging physical and mental health problems, substance abuse related issues, as well as responding to emergencies and providing health education.

Shifts are available over 7 days, with the shift pattern - 6:15-4:15 pm or 12 pm-8 pm. There are no night shifts.

**Essential to this role**:

- You must be a qualified Registered Nurse in New Zealand with current practising certificate or eligible to apply
- A full New Zealand drivers licence
- Recent experience in primary or secondary health care nursing
- A broad range of post-graduate clinical experience
- The ability to assess and respond to an emergency situation
- The motivation to continue learning and developing professionally
- A non-judgemental approach

**Desirable (but not essential)**
- Experience in triage, chronic illness, wound care & phlebotomy
- An independent vaccinator
