The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, works towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the factors that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
We have an excellent opportunity for a **Public Health Medicine Specialist**, that reports into the Director Transformation and the Chief Public Health Clinical Officer, where you will provide strategic and specialist public health advice. You will work closely and collaboratively within and outside of the team to ensure timely information and advice is provided for decision-making, and guidance is provided to enable the NPHS to be effectively and efficiently operationalised.
**Mōu | About you**
You will be a Senior Medical Officer who can use your expert knowledge of public health topics and the health system to ensure the successful design, delivery, coordination, and program management of NPHS's strategic transformation program. You will have experience in the pursuit and embedding of Māori health gain as part of honouring Te Tiriti as well as achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori, Pacific peoples and other priority populations. You are interested in the bigger picture and can think strategically and tactically. You have a proven record of project delivery and have worked across Aotearoa's public health landscape.
**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- Fellowship of the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine (or equivalent) and a Master of Public Health
- At least five years' experience working in public health in Aotearoa New Zealand
- Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, in Public Health Medicine
- The ability to write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely
- Experience within large scale, multi program/project coordination and delivery across diverse functions, at a senior level
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a willingness to learn and grow
