Mō te tūnga | About the role
Ruatoria sub-area sits within the Tairawhiti Policing Area and staffing consists of a Sergeant, four response Constables and a Frontline Station Support Officer based at Ruatoria and two sole charge Constables based at Te Araroa and Tokomaru Bay. The Ruatoria sub-area is also support by two family harm kaiawhina under Whangaia Nga Pa Harakeke. This response Constables position reports to the OC Station: Ruatoria.
Ruatoria is a small East Coast settlement in the heart of Ngati Porou. Geographically located 128 km North of Gisborne, Ruatoria boasts some of the best hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation Aotearoa has to offer. The community is tight-knit and the local Police value a special relationship with their community. The area is supported by schooling at all levels from early childhood and kohanga reo through to secondary. Access to healthcare involves a local health clinic staffed by resident and locum Doctors and Nurses and a functional hospital is located at Te Puia Springs, 27 kilometres South of Ruatoria.
Station Support Officers (SSO) are pivotal to the efficient and effective delivery of front counter and back office services within a police station.
The role of Frontline Station Support Officer is to provide customer service for our Front Counter based at the Ruatoria Police Station. Every day you will be dealing with situations which will need to be approached with professionalism, respect, empathy and in a positive manner. You will be welcoming customers into the station and ensuring their enquiries are understood and handled appropriately, this accounts for around sixty percent of the SSO role.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Dealing with challenging circumstances in a customer services environment
- Managing challenging situations involving members of the public in a professional, respectful, and empathetic manner.
- Recording of complaints from members of the public, answering general inquiries and performing reception duties such managing contractor / visitor access.
- Managing exhibit, drug and found property stores, assembling Court files for initial hearings, ordering of supplies, managing courier deliveries, and acting as a general font of knowledge.
- Working collegially as part of a team of seven that report to a Customer Services Manager.
