**About the role**

The Covert Online Team (COLT) is seeking a Technical Assistant, Investigator, or Specialist to join the team. This is an exciting time of change for our team and will provide applicants a unique opportunity to assist in the development of a NZ Police online capability.

In addition you will innovate investigative techniques and develop solutions to complex technical problems. We are looking for applicants that are self-motivated, positive, and passionate problem-solvers. The role is unique as online offending is borderless and requires investigators to build effective relationships with both domestic and international companies and law enforcement agencies.

This role requires the highest level of integrity and an interest in covert policing.

The New Zealand Police Covert Online Team have one position available, at either the Assistant, Investigator or Specialist level.

**Technical Assistant**

This role is for a graduate in a Cybersecurity, Computer Science/Networking, or Open-Source Intelligence course, or similar, or equivalent industry experience (2 years minimum).

**Technical Investigator**

This role is for a graduate with an Undergraduate Degree or equivalent industry experience (3 years minimum) in Cybersecurity, Computer Science/Networking, or Open-Source Intelligence, or similar.

**Technical Specialist**

This role is for a graduate with a Master’s Degree or equivalent experience (5 years minimum) in Cybersecurity, Incident Response, Computer Science/Networking, or Open-Source Intelligence, or similar.

**Sought Experience**:
We’re seeking someone with a broad set of technical skills. You should have experience in some, and an interest in the following:

- Online investigations
- OSINT
- Cybersecurity
- Computer networking
- Dark net
- Infrastructure management
- Covert tradecraft and policing
- Cryptocurrencies and blockchain analysis
- Data analysis
- Databases
- Computer Programming

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Be self-motivated and ready to learn, have excellent organisational, research, and communication skills
- Pay attention to detail and have the flexibility to cope with change
- Be capable of making sound decisions under pressure
- Work well and communicate positively in a team environment

**Special Requirements**:

- Clean and current (full) driver’s license
- IT qualification or work experience within an IT related field
