**The role**

A trusted advisor, the People Partner provides robust and effective, tactical and operational people advice and support to operational people leaders.

The People Partner challenges thinking, providing fresh insight and information to people leaders ensuring they make the best decisions for their team, while supporting the delivery of the overall organisational strategy and goals.

Reporting to the Manager - People Partners and Advisory, you will more specifically responsible for:

- Providing high quality, legally robust and best-practice people advice to operational business leaders on all aspects of HR and the employee lifecycle
- Building effective relationships with operational leaders, advising and influencing them in the execution of their people management responsibilities
- Problem solving and recommending solutions leveraging your HR experience, insights and access to knowledge across the wider business
- Keeping abreast of legislation and regulations that impact people-related processes
- Providing coaching advice and support to people leaders to support:

- the development of a positive workplace - including resolving performance issues, conflict resolution and developing good working relationships
- compliance with people-related policies and procedures and legal requirements by helping people leaders to manage ER issues and risks at the lowest level of escalation
- People initiatives and actively supporting work to align to the People Strategy.

**Your background**
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or related discipline and/or proven relevant experience in both the private and public sector
- Demonstrable experience in HR/ER disciplines (including disciplinary matters, personal grievances, investigations, mediation, change management) in large organisations (500+ staff) with active unions
- Strong understanding of HR best practice
- Experience partnering with the business to effectively advise on operational people outcomes.

**Your personal attributes**
- Excellent customer focus with proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with leaders, customers and stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with the ability to deliver clear messaging in an appropriate language for the receiving audience
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects or pieces of work with tight and competing deadlines
- Proven ability to take initiative to identify, problem solve, and deliver outcomes
- Experience in coaching and mentoring business leaders to enhance overall capability in HR/ER practice
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues and concerns
- Working knowledge of current NZ employment law and HR practices.
