**About the role**

Reporting to the Chief Advisor Standards, this role sits alongside 5 other Flight Examiners within the Licensing and Standards Unit. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to influence within the CAA as well as external organisations and participants. The Flight Examiner Standards - Safety Programs will provide advice, guidance and support into the Airborne Conflict at Unattended Aerodromes Safety Campaign called Work Together, Stay Apart, and to assist in the development of educational material and updated aviation standards that support that task. As such, the position holder will work across the Licensing and Standards team and the Regulatory Interventions team to meet their role requirements.

Also as a primary function, the position holder will research, provide advice and direct policy on the maintenance, update and development of flight standards with a focus on flight training, licensing and ratings required under Part 61, but not limited to this field. This role also has a critical stakeholder engagement function within the CAA and with the aviation industry that requires the position holder to provide accurate and thorough advice on the regulatory system requirements in relation to flight training, flight examining, flight operations and flight safety in general.

You would also be required to regularly travel in order to undertake the responsibilities associated with this position.

This is an 18 month fixed term position, based in Wellington and the salary range is $108,171-$127,259 (mid-point), depending on your skills and experience.

**What we’re looking for**:

- An ICAO Professional Pilot Licence either ATPL or CPL, Instructor Category A or B Rating and ideally an instrument rating, along with a wide range of flight examiner approvals.
- Well-developed interpersonal and presentation skills, the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in a confident and positive manner
- A strong understanding of the NZ Civil Aviation legislative and regulatory framework and other statutory requirements
- Five years or more in a demonstrated leadership or management position
- Substantial, varied and relevant experience in the aviation industry with general operational knowledge and experience (CAR Parts 61/91/119/135/141)
- The ability to establish and maintain approachable professional relationships with industry and its sector bodies
- Well-developed ability to critically analyse and interpret complex information and make effective, well-reasoned decisions
