- Senior Advisor role to contribute to the development of the sustainability function for the Ministry to achieve the government's expectations as set out in the Carbon Neutral Government Programme (CNGP) and the Ministry's own sustainability strategy

**As the Senior Advisor - Sustainability, you will**:

- Lead projects across the Ministry that support the delivery of our sustainability strategy and projects from a corporate perspective as led by Te Pou Rangatōpū | Corporate
- Build trust when working with key stakeholders to support decision making and sustain improvement and change
- Maintain an open and responsive relationship with key stakeholders
- Lead, contribute to and co-ordinate working groups and interagency meetings as required to effectively progress solutions to issues
- Influence the Ministry business groups to act on and sustain the cultural change needed to implement the Ministry's sustainability strategy across the organisation
- Support the communication of the Ministry's sustainability story and projects internally andexternally
- Support the Ministry to maintain a robust understanding of environmental, social, cultural, and economic factors that impact on the Ministry's ability to sustainably operate now and in the future
- Develop appropriate management processes, policies, measurement tools that help the Ministry to appropriately manage and deliver on the government's Carbon Neutral Government Programme (CNGP) expectations and the Ministry's sustainability objectives
- Identify, co-ordinate, project manage and deliver initiatives and key programmes identified as part of our sustainability strategy such as carbon inventory measurement, carbon emissions target setting and planning as well as climate risk management projects
- Support delivery of the Ministry's sustainability reporting (both internal and external) in a way

which enables complex information to be communicated well and easy to understand

Mōhou ake | About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following experience, capabilities and competencies:

- Tertiary qualification preferably in the fields of environmental science, sustainable development, planning, engineering, law, economics, accounting, business and commerce
- Carbon emissions accounting and reporting along with a proven ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities, to influence and guide organisational and system
- level decision making
- Experience in a complex organisation and in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes along with a track record of leading, coaching and mentoring others to achieve outcomes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to use different Ministry technology and tools to communicate with stakeholders across the Ministry
- Ability and desire to recognise and seize opportunities to improve on the organisation's performance
- Strong time management and organisational skills, attention to detail, along with good documentation skills along with critical and analytical thinking to solve problems
- Attention and orientation to detail and documentation of operational processes, costings, proposals for new initiatives providing key decision-making information
- Capable of communicating about sustainability both in presentations and in writing recommendation papers for sign off by senior leadership
- You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public s
