Central Community Sport Advisor, Sport Otago Active
Communities Team, Sport Clutha and Waitaki Regional
Coordinators, and Support Services Team.

**Purpose of Position**:
The Sport Central Play and PE Advisor is responsible for:
Promoting the importance of play and physical education for tamariki in both early childhood
settings and primary schools to develop healthy lifestyle habits.

Acting as a facilitator, enabler, and initiator of play and physical education in Central Otago
through the development, implementation, and facilitation of programmes and initiatives.

**KEY TASKS OUTCOMES**

**Programme Coordination **Deliver Sport Otago’s On Your Marks Programme to early
childhood centres and primary schools across Central Otago.

Deliver Sport Otago’s Physical Activity Leader Programme in
primary schools across Central Otago.

Manage the utilisation by schools of the shared equipment pool
across the Central Otago region.

Partner with local stakeholders to facilitate ‘Play’ based initiatives
for tamariki.

In conjunction with Sport Otago’s Active Communities Team,
provide expertise and leadership to the early childhood sector,
including postnatal and preschool groups, through the provision
of information, advice, and training opportunities.

**Relationship Management **Work closely and develop key contacts with early childhood
providers, primary schools, ‘Play’ providers, and community

groups.

Establish close working relationships with Sport Otago’s Active
Communities Team, in particular the ‘Play’ Lead and the
Community Activator.

Liaise closely with Territorial Authorities, funders, and key
recreational facilities.

Contribute to creating positive awareness of Sport Central’s
programmes and physical activity options within the community.

Maintain and keep current all social media accounts associated
with Sport Central.

Develop media links to ensure effective advocacy messages and
coverage of Sport Central, play, active recreation, and sport
programmes, and other community-based physical activity
options.

**Advocacy and Policy Advice **Provide expertise and advice on community-based physical
activities to Territorial Authorities, funding agencies, and key

decision-makers within the Central Otago region.

Effectively advocate for initiatives and principles that are
consistent with Sport Central’s aims and objectives.

**Programme Reporting and **Accurately maintain a management plan, required records, and
**Accountability **reports.

Provide required monthly reports against Sport Otago’s Strategic
Objectives to the General Manger - Programmes.

**Best Practice **Demonstrate and implement best practice processes and
procedures for Sport Otago programmes and initiatives.

Contribute to creating positive awareness of Sport Otago’s
services and enhance the organisation’s profile within the
community.

Ensure the philosophies and principles underpinning our
programmes are applied, including the integration of Sport
Otago’s Regional Leadership Approach encompassing Physical
Literacy, Locally Led, and Insights and Evaluation.

Ensure the Treaty of Waitangi and its principles of Partnership,
Protection, and Participation are acknowledged and reflected in
the implementation of the initiative.

Ensure all decisions and behaviours are inclusive and embrace
diversity across our wider stakeholder community, through
commitment to social justice, equity, and equality.
