We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced Unit Support Manager. This is a full-time fixed term role for 12 months due to an Operations restructure.

**About the Job**:
Our Unit Support Managers are critical roles that provide leadership support to volunteers in Coastguard units. You will be based in our Wellington head office, but may be required to travel to other units throughout NZ from time to time. You will be the key link between units and the regional support team, enhancing performance, as well as volunteer welfare, training, and support.

The key accountabilities for this role include:

- Maximise units’ operational performance through working with volunteer leaders surrounding readiness and performance of units
- Lead a culture of safety and continuous improvement
- Facilitate and oversee volunteer welfare, training, and recognition, ensuring volunteers have access to relevant support services during and following critical incidents
- Enable the effective use of Coastguard resources, ensuring units have the appropriate equipment and that the equipment is serviced to meet H&S and Maritime New Zealand requirements
- Work with units in their regional operations groupings to identify opportunities to remove unnecessary administrative effort by volunteers and units
- Build strong and effective stakeholder relationships
- Leadership - Contribute positive and collaborative leadership to the regional and national teams.

**Requirements**:
We are seeking a capable leader, motivator, and influencer to take on this unique role, which ultimately has a significant impact on saving people’s lives. To be successful in this role, you will need to show proven experience (of at least 3 years) in the following areas:

- Previous experience in Surf life saving (preferably in a similar role but should be familiar with the culture and environment of this type of work).
- Relationship management and influencing skills - a real people person, who can quickly gain and maintain the trust and confidence of others
- Developing good relationships and partnerships with outside organisations and partners
- Effective (on your feet) speaking and presentation, with the ability to connect with people from all walks of life
- Experience successfully coaching and training staff
- Problem solving both strategically and operationally, with a practical roll-your-sleeves-up approach
- Self-reliant and confident operating independently

This role involves working outside normal office hours, including evening and weekend work, as well as regional travel. Applicants must hold a valid Class 1 Drivers Licence (vehicle provided) and be entitled to work permanently in New Zealand.
