Impactful work: Make a difference with diverse interventions for high-risk individuals.
- Supportive collaboration: Join a dynamic team, receive training, and collaborate for professional growth.
- Work-life balance and well-being: Prioritise well-being while excelling professionally through comprehensive support.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Registered Psychologists to join our dynamic and supportive team. Located in the heart of Palmerston North, our team operates within the Community Corrections Hub, where we primarily work in prison settings in both Manawatu and Whanganui (male prisons), as well as in Community Corrections.
As part of our team, you will engage in a diverse range of clinical tasks and case consultations involving men, women, and young adults. Our focus is on assessing and intervening with individuals identified as high risk for reoffending. Consequently, we often work with individuals facing complex challenges, who are motivated for change and actively participate in the therapeutic process. We are committed to supporting your growth as a therapist, providing you with the necessary training, supervision, and guidance to excel in assessment and intervention. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to offer expert advice to the Courts and New Zealand Parole Board.
Collaborative meetings with colleagues from Ara Poutama Aotearoa and the community, as well as participation in whanau hui, are integral parts of our work. We also encourage you to share your expertise through training sessions and explore how your specific interests intersect with our work at Ara Poutama Aotearoa. We are actively developing our skills in trauma-informed care and regularly conduct neuropsychological assessments when appropriate.
While being a psychologist with Ara Poutama Aotearoa can be demanding, we prioritise work-life balance and maintaining your personal well-being while delivering exceptional service. We are committed to meeting psychologists' needs and supporting them in achieving positive outcomes. As part of our commitment to your professional growth, Ara Poutama Aotearoa will provide you with comprehensive training specific to the role, ongoing supervision, refresher courses, and opportunities for both in-house and external training.

- Master's degree in psychology and eligibility for registration as a Psychologist in New Zealand.
- Demonstrated experience in providing psychological assessments and evidence-based treatments.
- Training and expertise in trauma-informed therapeutic models.

- Strong commitment to culturally safe practice and partnership.
- Proven experience working with individuals with acute and complex mental health and/or addictions issues.
- Familiarity or a strong willingness to work with Kaupapa Māori frameworks and services.

Join us at Ara Poutama Aotearoa, where you will find a fulfilling career and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
