**JOB TITLE**

**Social Worker - Dunedin**

**PURPOSE**

To facilitate best practice service for the support and empowerment of ethnic women and children in domestic violence situations; To promote the right for ethnic women to live free from fear and violence.

**Maintain the principles of management at Shakti**:

- Awareness and acceptance that Shakti is part of the New Zealand woman’s refuge movement and carries with it a feminist perspective centered around the empowerment of women.
- That Shakti continues to advocate and rally against all forms of discrimination, racism, abuse and violence
- Our core work of eliminating violence against women and children is adhered to, voiced publicly, and enhanced
- Asian, African and Middle Eastern women and children are able to lead violence-free, self
- reliant lives
- That Shakti adheres to the principles of Te Tiriti and cordial and supportive relationships with Tangata Whenua continue to be maintained

**SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Functional relationships within the organization**:
Regional Refuge Service Delivery Manager, other Social Workers, Case Workers, Local Site Team members, Administrators, Crisis Line, Shakti Branches Counsellors, Lawyers, Staff and Volunteers,

CRM, SDETAT Life Skills Programme

**Functional relationships outside the organization**:
Ethnic communities, clients, Police, Ministry of Justice, OT, NZ Immigration, community service providers, health providers, funders, educational Institutes, Housing providers, Work and Income New

Zealand

**This role reports to**:
Regional Refuge Service Delivery Manager

**Key Tasks**

**Crisis Response and Management**:
▪ Prioritize clients’ safety over any other aspects

▪ Respond to calls received on 0800SHAKTI promptly, empathetically, and within specified guidelines

▪ Refuge Services: All Clients, crisis clients, and potential crisis clients will be referred to the

Refuge services.

▪ Working closely with the Refuge Coordinator to ensure the safety of the client, and the client receives adequate services.

▪ Exess database to be updated regularly: Orientation will be provided.

▪ Attend Police meetings (Interagency meetings, collecting referrals, feedback, etc)

▪ Work with CRM coordinator for settling clients into the community.

▪ Work with SDETAT (life skills program) to provide Life skill program to clients.

▪ Child Access: In joint custody, the client will require support from the refuge/social worker for child access.

▪ Accurate intake assessment for clients in an efficient and timely manner adhering to Shakti's policies at all times.

▪ Supervise Crisis line volunteers on client pick-up. Conduct a telephone assessment as and when required.

▪ Ensure clients' needs are identified and agreed 'Plan of Action is executed and followed-up

▪ Assist callers to be referred and/or directed relevant Shakti centers and/or other appropriate centres for case management. Information is recorded in the electronic database.

▪ Appropriate documentation is filed in the client file. Client confidentiality is maintained at all times.

**Monitoring**:
▪ Monitor 0800SHAKTI crisis services Assessments

▪ Action Plans and outcomes for clients are satisfactory and in line. with policy.

▪ Organizational Quality Assurance standards are met in alliance with other team members and the Auckland Regional Refuge Service Delivery Manager.

▪ Potential Areas for improvement are identified and recommended to the line Manager for approval.

▪ Conduct volunteer management

▪ Call Centre service is ready to deliver efficiently 24/7.

**Primary Advocacy and Case Management**:
▪ Liaising and advocating for clients with various government departments, including Work and

Income, Housing New Zealand, police, and courts, and ensuring that the client receives adequate. support for her case.

▪ Advocacy should be based on the women’s empowerment model.

▪ Maintain existing networks and develop new networks with key agencies such as Police,

Court, Immigration, and Mental Health

▪ Identify current network members and maintain on-going correspondence.

▪ Establish communication links with external agencies like local refuges, courts, hospitals, lawyers, police, national network, ethnic communities, women's networks, etc.

▪ Update Client cases in Excess as required.

▪ Breach of safety incidents to be reported to appropriate authorities and documented in client file

**Meetings and Supervision**

▪ Be available to be rostered during public holiday periods and see that all year-end closing procedures completed during Christmas Holiday period.

▪ Meetings, Training & Professional Development is attended to.

▪ Regular attendance at Supervision to ensure safe practice and client wellbeing

▪ Staff Counselling services are accessed towards maintaining self
