This is accredited towards the Critical Care component of the training programme.
Te Whatu Ora MidCentral Emergency Department is an Australasian Level 4 regional trauma centre with approximately 55,000 presentations per annum. The ED sees a large volume of trauma due to its large rural catchment area, as well as high acuity paediatric and adult medical patients. There is excellent exposure to critical procedures, and we see a vast range of complex pathology. There is access to all medical and surgical subspecialties with the exception of cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery and plastic surgery; patients requiring these services are transferred to Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.
**Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role**
**Painga | What's in it for you**
Our department is committed to supporting our trainees as they progress through the ACEM training programme. The department prides itself on its weekly, structured, protected teaching programme which is consultant led. This programme is delivered using an array of teaching strategies (tutorials, simulation sessions, clinical skills workshops, morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical radiology sessions) and features dedicated paediatric emergency medicine teaching.
For junior trainees, there is a highly supported and successful Primary examination teaching programme with one of the highest success rates across Australasia. Our Fellowship examination preparation programme is run by FACEMs who are on the ACEM Council of Education Fellowship Exam Writing Group. Both the Primary and Fellowship examination programme sessions are delivered weekly in addition to the protected teaching programme.
As a department we are committed to the ACEM Aotearoa Manaaki Mana Strategy. During your time with us you will be provided with cultural competence and cultural safety training which will progress you into learning about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the founding document which encapsulates the fundamental relationship between the Crown and Iwi. You will be given the opportunity to more deeply understand our responsibility to eliminate Māori health inequities, and how to practise Emergency Medicine in a way that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
