**Job Description** Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

**This is a 0.5 FTE part-time permanent role.**

We are looking for a part-time Hazardous Substances Advisor to join our supportive and respected Health & Safety team as part of Human Resources. You will work with a connected Health & Safety team who provide a professional partnership with academic faculties and service divisions to enable the University to deliver on its people, health and safety priorities.

In this newly created role you will advise on compliance risk with University and legislative requirements related to chemicals acquisition, use, storage, transportation and disposal. You will also monitor use of and supervise the maintenance, IT support and administration of the University's SciTrack system for managing the procurement and tracking of hazardous materials.

Here is a snapshot of some of your key responsibilities:

- Provide advice and assist with compliance with all regulations related to disposal of chemical waste and maintenance of the management of hazardous substances within the University
- Provide advice and assist with compliance with controlled drugs and maintaining central registers
- Ensure disposal records (including destruction certificates) are kept for all chemical disposals. Provide annual chemical disposal reports for the University.
- Manage records, amendments and renewal of EPA approvals. Manage Compliance certificates and their documentation
- Develop and maintain excellent and collaborative working relationships with Suppliers, HSW Team members, HR staff members and faculties/service division staff members

We are seeking someone with a positive can-do attitude and strong customer service focus. The key to your success will be your attitude, coupled with outstanding stakeholder management capability, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and your ability to thrive in a busy and dynamic environment.

You will ideally have a good understanding of chemistry and biology including terminology and experience working in a laboratory environment. You will also have a good understanding of Dangerous Goods, Hazardous Substances and UN classifications, Globally Harmonised System of Classification and labelling of chemicals. We use SciTrack software so a working knowledge would be highly beneficial.
