Our Deep-Water Fleet operate out of Timaru and include deep-sea trawlers, scampi vessels and long liners. As well as Fisheries within NZ, they also travel as far away as the Ross Sea.
About the role: Opportunities to enter this specialist profession, right in the heart of factory operations onboard a deep-sea fishing vessel, are infrequent in our industry. As a Baader technician your next challenge will start on one of our larger frozen at sea Hoki vessels which are up to 67m, offering the amazing work life balance of trip on/trip off (spending up to 6 weeks at sea followed by up to 6 weeks off).
**As a Baader Technician you would be in a sole charge position supporting the vessel by**:
- Setting up and maintaining the onboard processing factory and equipment. This includes the conveyors moving product through the factory to high tech logic-controlled filleting machines and automated plate freezing systems.
- Conducting routine electrical maintenance and troubleshooting of general electrical circuits through to more complex automated control systems.
- Overhauling and maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, including rams, motors, hose replacements and leak repairs.
- Carrying put light engineering fabrication work that generally involves making/repairing machine parts. This quite often involves lathe work, welding and machining (the main three welding processes used are GTAW/TIG, SMAW/ARC).
- Supporting where appropriate with training new crew members on the safe and correct use of all factory equipment.
- Maintaining spare parts inventory and maintenance work lists, including the use of plant management, Microsoft office and CAD software in the form of Visio.
This is a varied role where most of the trade specialties are represented. Full on-the-job training will be provided to support you in your ongoing and exciting professional development.
**To be successful**:
Ideally you will have proven experience as sole charge Baader Technician on a commercial fishing vessel. Not a requirement but certainly an advantage will be holding a trade certification in any engineering field, including but not limited to, General Engineering, Machine Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance, Hydraulics, Electrical / Electronics, Welding, Fitting / Turning, Auto Mechanics or the National diploma "Factory Trawler Technician" Level 6.

**In return**:
As a Baader Technician, you will be paid a fixed daily rate, paid weekly for contracting your services, with additional end of trip earnings calculated via a tonnage rate of the total catch for the trip.
