**1. GENERAL**
Te Wānanga o Ngā Kete Division of Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Sciences includes Te Kura School of

Arts, Te Piringa Faculty of Law, Te Kura Whatu Oho Mauri School of Psychology, and Te Kura Aronui School

of Social Sciences, The Division also contains two research institutes: Te Ngira Institute for Population

Research and Te Puna Haumaru New Zealand Institute for Security and Crime Science (NZISCS).

Te Kura Aronui School of Social Sciences is comprised of a number of Programmes including, Anthropology,

Environmental Planning, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Public Policy, Sociology and

Social Policy. The role of Te Kura Aronui School of Social Sciences is to provide teaching and research in

and professional training levels.

The Sociology and Social Policy Programme offers majors in Sociology and Social Policy and an

interdisciplinary minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. At graduate and postgraduate level it offers

programmes in Sociology and Social Policy. Papers in Sociology and Social Policy are offered online, at the

Hamilton campus, and at the Tauranga Campus.

**2. POSITION PURPOSE**

The Postdoctoral Fellow (0.5 FTE) will contribute to the 3-year Marsden funded project: “Breaking the cycle

of shame and silence: A relational study of intersex experience.” This researcher will play a key role in each

stage of the research process, which will be developed in dialogue with people with variations in sex

characteristics (intersex variations). The proposed study will use qualitative, digital and participatory

methods, working closely with peer researchers in the intersex community and potentially takatāpui

community. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong grounding in carrying out and

publishing social science research and an interest in empowering and community-based research. Intersex,

ira tangata, Māori and Pasifika applicants are encouraged to apply.

**3. ACCOUNTABILITY**

The Postdoctoral Fellow is responsible to the Head of School.

The Postdoctoral Fellow is supervised by the Chief Researcher.

**5. KEY TASKS**

Having regard to the aims and objectives and the long term strategic goals of the School, the Division and

the University the primary objectives of the Postdoctoral Fellow include:
Conduct high quality research related to the “Breaking the cycle of shame and silence” research project

and contribute to knowledge development through scholarship, publication and conference and public

presentations.Provide assistance with the preparation of project-related reports, project correspondence, and overall

project management, including attendance at meetings.Fulfil necessary administrative and reporting functions connected with the research.Search for relevant literature as required, draft literature reviews, and maintain bibliographies.Contribute to the development of research methods that engage participants sensitively.Build and maintain community-based networks helping to recruit participants, generate data and provide

leadership to peer researchers.Participate as a new scholar in the School.Collaborate with colleagues and research stakeholders.Lead or assist with the editing and preparation of manuscripts for publication.-
Conduct high quality research related to the above research project and contribute to knowledge

development through scholarship, publication and conference and public presentations.Participate in the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for self and others including

students. Comply with and undertake responsibilities set out in the University’s Health and Safety Policy.Any other duties as required that are consistent with the position held, other than in exceptional

circumstances such as rehabilitation after injury or sickness.
