The Whakapapa whānau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.

Whakapapa operates a fleet of Pisten Bully snow groomers and this winter we are seeking experienced Groomer and Winch Cat Operators who understand the need to deliver a quality product to the guest in an efficient and safe manner.
Groomer Operators must be hard working, self-motivated and prepared to work night shift. As a member of the Grooming Team, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality snow surfaces to provide our guests with the best possible mountain experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating and constructing quality snow surfaces for sledding, skiing and riding to support the day-to-day mountain operations.
- Carry out regular groomer maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry best practice
- Working closely with Managers and other department leads to access trail access, safety and design
We are seeking interest for casual, part-time and full-time employees for this seasonal opportunity (June to October). Note - part-time employees would be rostered 8-30 hours per week, and full-time 30 plus hours per week (Monday to Sunday).

Prior experience of operating snow groomers is essential for these roles. However there may be an opportunity for less experienced operators to learn on the job.
- At least two years' experience operating snow groomers and being familiar with and competent in undertaking machinery maintenance requirements, as per the operating manual.
- Winch-Cat Operators need at least three years' experience operating groomers.
- Full NZ driver’s license/ overseas driver license equivalent.
- Ability to share technical information with other technical or non-technical people in a manner that is quickly understandable.
- A flexible approach to rosters, guest needs and the direction of the organisation
- Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing - an applicant will be required to undergo a drug screening test before being employed or engaged

$24 to $32 per hour depending on experience. This will be discussed in detail during the interview process.
