**About The opportunity | Ko te āheinga**:
Join us in a pivotal role that sits at the intersection of climate science and regional environmental management. As our Climate Scientist, you will be instrumental in shaping how the Hawke's Bay region understands and responds to climate challenges, working within our Environmental Science section to deliver crucial insights that inform regional planning and decision-making.

Your work will enable us to track the region’s greenhouse gas emissions and will directly contribute to our climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, supporting HBRC's commitment to environmental stewardship. You will engage with stakeholders across the community, from government agencies to iwi groups, helping to build understanding and drive positive environmental outcomes. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in how our region responds to climate challenges while working with a dedicated team of environmental professionals.

Your commitment to environmental stewardship aligns with our values, and your understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles enhances your ability to work effectively with our diverse community. You are naturally curious, always eager to learn, and ready to adapt as our climate challenges evolve.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- A postgraduate qualification in climatology, meteorology, or environmental science with a focus on climate studies
- Strong programming skills in R or similar languages for statistical computing and graphics
- Experience in analysing spatial and time-series climate data
- Proven expertise in greenhouse gas accounting using the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Inventories
- Exceptional ability to translate complex scientific concepts for non-technical audiences
- Strong project management skills to handle multiple concurrent projects
- In-depth understanding of climate change science and its regional implications
- Experience with extreme weather event analysis and local observations
- Proficiency in GIS and data visualization tools
- Valid driver's license
