Otago is famous for its residential college communities supporting thousands of mostly first-year students as they begin their tertiary journey. Cumberland College (Te Kāreti o Cumberland) and 192 Castle College (Te Kāreti o Castle) are separate Colleges, in close proximity, run by a single management team offering safe, fun, and nurturing environments for 452 students throughout the academic year.

Cumberland College is home to 327 residents in a historic building and is renowned for being a friendly and homely College with well-rounded students who value both academic success and recreational and social activities. 192 Castle College is Otago’s smallest College and is home to 125 residents in ensuite rooms and has an ethnically and culturally diverse group of residents.

**_ The role / Te mahi_**

Tautiaki-kaiāwhina (Assistant Wardens) are key members of the College pastoral and welfare team. With a focus on wellbeing/oraka, they provide culturally appropriate opportunities for residents to experience cultural, sporting, academic and personal development in a positive college environment.

**_ Skills and experience / Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**

We are looking for a future leader who is resilient and capable of handling (sometimes) difficult and complex situations.
- Experience working with young adults in a leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in emergency or crisis situations.
- Experience in engaging students, and managing a variety of safe and fun student focussed events and activities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to achieve a range of tasks under competing demands, within agreed timeframes.
- Experience in the tertiary sector would be a distinct advantage.

**_ Further details / Pūroko_**

This is a permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE) position, located in Dunedin. The role will require regular rostered evening and weekend hours of work.

The position is live-in and requires a high level of commitment, including being rostered on-call. Accommodation is provided within the College and the total remuneration package for this position includes full compensation for all accommodation costs.
