About the opportunity As our technician, you will be joining our R&D Dairy Foods and Food Service team in a dynamic and fast paced role on a fixed term basis. We're looking to fill this vacancy with an immediate start. This role will be based at the Fonterra Research and Development Centre (FRDC) in Palmerston North reporting to the Cream Products Manager. Your main focus is to create and provide independent delivery of quality technical support for research with regular supervision, contributing to outputs within research teams that lead to sustained significant commercial value to Fonterra. Duties include technical support in new product development, technical business support and new technology development projects to develop value propositions for our Food Service, Ingredient and Consumer business. This will involve product and application development at bench and pilot-plant scales, undertake storage trials and tests for physico-chemical properties, structural, functional, and sensory testing. Key role responsibilities include: Generate data with critical analysis of quality, accuracy, and internal consistency with validation through application of trouble shooting principles. Manipulate data to a readily understandable form. Results to be presented to supervisors and immediate colleagues. Provide sufficient expertise in all the techniques and use of instrumentation/plant required to enable independent technical support and present innovative solutions to technical problems. Contribute to tactical planning, including time frames for delivery of technical data, and discriminate between courses of action and alternative technical approaches. Provide technical advice/guidance that may be open to review. High degree of organisation and full adherence to laboratory safety requirements.Provide improvements to existing laboratory/ plant systems Demonstrate Fonterra’s organisational values and principles, and actively support Technical and Research Teams and team goals and be receptive to self-improvement initiatives We have an excellent training and development culture, and this is a fantastic opportunity to learn about our site, plant, and processes to build on your knowledge and experience. About you This is a busy and varied role, and we are looking for an energetic self-starter who has a solid understanding of Dairy Food Applications, laboratory operations or analytical techniques. You’ll be a team player and have the ability to work well and communicate with others will be key in maintaining a cohesive team across the site. You will also have: A Bachelor of Science or equivalent tertiary industrial qualification (e.g. NZCS, Dip Sci) or equivalent experience. Few other key attributes will be: Knowledge ofexperimentation instrumentation or equipment plant use and application. Good communication skills, oral and written. Strong self and time management.
