About the Role
Our client, an innovative software development company, is seeking a dedicated Application Security Specialist to join their engineering team. This role is responsible for ensuring the security of the company's software products throughout the development lifecycle. You will work closely with development teams to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities in code, implement secure coding practices, and conduct security testing. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of web application security, secure coding principles, and familiarity with common security vulnerabilities. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to work from anywhere while making a significant impact on product security. You will be an integral part of a team committed to building secure and reliable software.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct security reviews of source code and application designs. Perform security testing, including static and dynamic analysis (SAST/DAST) of applications. Identify, analyze, and report on application security vulnerabilities. Work with development teams to provide guidance on secure coding practices and vulnerability remediation. Develop and implement security best practices for the software development lifecycle (SDLC). Assist in the development and maintenance of application security tools and frameworks. Stay up-to-date with emerging application security threats and trends. Contribute to the development of security awareness training for developers. Participate in security architecture reviews for new features and products. Advocate for security best practices throughout the organization. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience in application security, software development, or a related role. Strong understanding of common web application vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10) and their mitigation. Experience with static and dynamic application security testing (SAST/DAST) tools. Familiarity with secure coding principles and practices. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C#, Java Script). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with development teams. Knowledge of security frameworks and standards is a plus. Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively in a fully remote environment. Location can be flexible for a remote candidate, supporting Queenstown, Eastern Cape based operations remotely.
