About the Role Our Psychiatry services are some of the largest and busiest in New Zealand Psychiatric training in Christchurch is run in conjunction with the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Otago's Christchurch Clinical School.
You will: Gain experience in general psychiatry and a variety of sub-specialties.
Join a supportive, cohesive group of registrars.
Receive excellent support from consultant supervisors.
Participate in a training program that works in close collaboration with an internationally recognised research department (The Otago University Department of Psychological Medicine).
Live in a vibrant city, with a creative undercurrent.
We have hills, beaches, and ski fields a short drive from Christchurch City.
Previous experience in psychiatry is an advantage but not necessary.
You must be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
