Junior Civil Engineer – Basic Filipino Interpreter

We are seeking a Junior Civil Engineer with Basic Filipino Interpreter Officer to join our growing foundation construction team.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in residential and commercial foundation works, supporting the delivery of high-quality projects across Canterbury.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the role includes acting as a Tagalog interpreter for site coordination and communication, helping bridge communication between management and team members to ensure clarity and smooth operations.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Supervise and monitor site activities, including excavation, formwork, steel placement, and concrete pouring.
Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with specifications, building codes, and safety standards.
Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and the operations team to ensure smooth workflow.
Communicate and interpret instructions for Tagalog-speaking site staff when required.
Perform material take-offs and assist with project scheduling and costings (reviewed by Director/LBP).
Support health and safety practices, risk assessments, and site documentation with the Health and Safety Representative.
Collect site data for reporting and project progress tracking.
Participate in training and development to enhance foundation engineering skills.
Job Requirements
1–2 years of construction experience, preferably in foundations, concrete, geotech or structural work.
Knowledge of geotechnical principles and soil/ground conditions relevant to foundation works.
Strong communication skills in both English and Tagalog for interpreting and site coordination.
Willingness to start early (from 4:00 am) due to concrete pouring operations.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
Basic knowledge of Xero is a bonus, as the role will involve approving bills under $5,000 and supporting financial reporting for back costings.
Valid Driver’s License.
Required Qualifications and Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Must have passed their Licensing Board (e.g., in NZ or other countries).
Familiarity with engineering/design software: Auto CAD, Revit, STAAD Pro, Geo5, and RCDC.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and Adobe tools.
Experience with estimating and costings for construction projects.
