Job Description

About the role

The Environmental Technician ensures that all landfill environmental monitoring tasks are conducted in compliance with the Site Environmental Monitoring Plan and Consent Conditions. This includes field sampling, managing sample dispatches, assessing test results, and maintaining regulatory compliance. The role also involves data entry, report preparation, equipment calibration, and supporting OHS standards while contributing to the company's mission and governance.

This role is based at our WM - Tirohia Landfill Site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting field sampling, testing, and waste load analysis per monitoring plans and consent conditions.
  • Managing sample dispatches to external laboratories and assessing test results for compliance.
  • Entering data into the site database and preparing reports on environmental data.
  • Calibrating and maintaining testing equipment and updating procedures for compliance.
  • Supporting OHS requirements, participating in safety programs, and ensuring risk management compliance.
  • Monitor and record leachate levels within the landfill to maintain the destruction of leachate at an adequate rate.
  • Install and maintain gas field pipe work and monitor well heads where necessary.
  • Install and maintain leachate pipes.
  • FID monitoring and reporting.
  • Operating LEU and Flare.
  • Complete any required documentation, promptly reporting any faults found with equipment, leachate and/or pipe work to your direct line manager.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

Tertiary qualifications in Applied Sciences or a related field and Microsoft Office proficiency are required. Strong communication, organizational skills, and fitness for fieldwork are essential.

Key Skills:

  • Conducting field sampling and testing.
  • Ability to drive a 4WD safely.
  • Managing sample dispatch and test results.
  • Preparing reports and maintaining equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with monitoring plans and safety programs.
