Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand Auckland District Health Board Part time
  • Do you enjoy working integrally as part of a multidisciplinary team?
  • You will work in partnership with our medical, nursing and allied health colleagues in an environment where teamwork is prioritised, valued and the patient is at the heart of everything we do

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are looking for a Part Time (.6FTE) New Zealand Registered Social Worker to join our team at Auckland City Hospital in the Integrated Stroke and Neurology Rehabilitation Service.

There are two distinct parts to this service; one is an acute, fast-paced style of working. The other part of the role will see you working alongside the rehabilitation unit which requires a more in-depth approach due to the complexity and prolonged hospital admissions of patients. This will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your brief intervention and complex social work skills.

A feature of the rehabilitation service is the highly collaborative interdisciplinary work. Social work is highly valued in this space and is an integral part of decision making and patient pathways. The rehabilitation service provides a service to patients aged 15 upwards who are beginning their rehabilitation journey, as a result of amputation, stroke or neurological or degenerative disease.

The role is a part time, .6FTE role. This equates to 24 hours per week. These 24 hours can be worked across 3-5 days per week; we welcome your thoughts on how this could work. New graduates are welcome to apply for this role. As part of the Adult Allied Health team, your role will also include:

  • Providing comprehensive assessment and outcome focused innovative care, applying evidence-based practice, interventions and education.
  • Working collaboratively alongside medical, nursing & allied health colleagues, valuing relationships and maintaining strong networks with all stakeholders.
  • Once you have completed a thorough orientation to your new role and become familiar with it, you will join the after-hours, on-site and on-call rosters. This equates to two to three shifts every three months. Substantial training and support specific to after-hours work will be provided to the successful candidate.

This is a busy and rewarding area to work in; you will be working alongside two other Social Workers in the service allowing for ongoing collaboration and learning from one another. You will also be part of a wider Adult and Women's Health social work service.

About you

As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Evidence of current registration with the New Zealand Social Workers' Registration Board and a current Annual Practicing Certificate or the ability to obtain this prior to starting in the role.
  • Able to navigate complex dynamics as you hold the needs and best interests of the patient and whānau in view.
  • An interest in rehabilitation.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a bicultural hospital environment.

For more information about this role please contact Kristy Martin, Clinical Lead, Social Work on 021 570 628 or kristy@adhb.govt.nz.
