At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

Are you an experienced design leader ready to shape the future of transportation infrastructure in New Zealand and Australia? Jacobs is seeking a Design Manager with extensive regional experience to join our Roads & Highways team in Auckland.

About the Role

As a Design Manager, you'll lead our design consultancy services and provide strategic technical direction across the Auckland region, New Zealand and Australia. Working alongside Project Executives and Technical Leaders, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering complex, multi-disciplinary transport projects that make a difference to our communities.

Our Roads and Highways team is a dynamic group of professionals working collaboratively across New Zealand and Australia, currently delivering some of the region's most significant infrastructure projects including major highway upgrades, complex interchanges, and urban mobility solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Lead design management on major infrastructure projects throughout their lifecycle.
  • Drive project success through effective risk management, quality assurance, and digital engineering implementation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with private and public sector clients.
  • Oversee the production of high-quality engineering design deliverables.
  • Manage diverse project teams, including global resources and subcontractors.
  • Support business growth through proposal development and tender preparation.

Here's what you'll need

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in design management within the transport infrastructure sector.
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery in the ANZ region.
  • Exceptional client relationship management skills.
  • Strong experience in Digital Engineering/BIM implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Experience in managing complex budgets and commercial outcomes.

At Jacobs, you'll join an organisation committed to fostering a caring and inclusive workplace, where safety and wellbeing are paramount. We believe in creating a flexible work environment that works for you - talk to us about your work/life preferences and how we can accommodate them. Beyond competitive compensation, you'll have access to comprehensive benefits including health insurance, life insurance, professional development, paid parental leave from day one plus many more.

For an accomplished design leader, this is an exceptional opportunity to join a market-leading team where your extensive experience and strategic vision will directly influence the development of critical infrastructure across New Zealand and Australia.

Accessibility

Please contact the team if you require support or reasonable adjustments regarding our recruitment process (for example, you need the application form in a different format).

Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people from marginalised or underrepresented backgrounds are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every qualification. At Jacobs, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align with every requirement in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles.
