Fluid Recruitment is proud to exclusively partner with Wellington Electricity in searching for a motivated GIS Specialist to join the Information Technology Team.
The Company
Wellington Electricity is an electricity distributor that delivers electricity to homes and businesses in the Wellington, Porirua and Hutt Valley regions of New Zealand covering over 4,650 square kilometres.
Priding itself on providing a high-reliability network, Wellington Electricity has a diverse range of customers including government agencies, major infrastructure providers, and network security-sensitive customers, playing an important role in the region's success.
The Role
As part of a tight-knit GIS team, you will support the continued development of Wellington Electricity's GIS infrastructure to support data-driven asset management, engineering, and operational decision-making. This will include:
- Leading FME integration between GIS and other business-wide systems such as asset management system, billing systems, and the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS)
- Manipulating, analysing, and presenting asset data
- Collaborating with electrical engineers, asset management specialists, and network operations professionals
- Developing data tools, projects, and automated processes
- Working alongside the GIS Technician, Developer, and other contractors/consultants on specific projects
Additionally, you will provide geospatial information and asset data to 3rd parties such as local infrastructure providers, contractors, and regulators.
About You
Bringing broad GIS knowledge, you will be excited by the opportunity to work with different technologies in supporting a range of specialist functions within the electricity sector.
Having worked in an infrastructure-oriented environment, you'll be experienced in extracting, transforming, and analysing data using FME products (such as From and Flow). Familiarity with open-source systems such as QGIS and PostGIS are advantageous, as is exposure to asset management systems, SCADA, and billing software - although not essential
You'll have the ability to work with multiple teams and balance the needs of different stakeholders, both internal and external. Autonomous and driven, you'll be able to identify improvement opportunities and take the initiative to make things happen.
The Opportunity
This unique opportunity allows you to play a key role in strengthening the foundations that enable more effective data-driven decision-making within a complex asset management environment. Well supported and part of a broader Information Technology team, you will be exposed to a range of different systems and help shape how things fit together.
Join the energy sector Play a key role in the push for decarbonisation and be part of a dynamic environment that is constantly investing and evolving to adapt for the future. This is an exciting role where you can be part of a forward-thinking team and contribute to New Zealand's future while furthering your GIS capabilities.
