Who we are | Kowaimatou?

NZCL is an organisation dedicated to supporting people with disabilities in New Zealand. Our Disability Support Services reflect our belief that all New Zealanders deserve to live fully, have equal opportunities, and achieve their ambitions. Our values of respect, support, and excellence are central to everything we do at NZCL. They shape and drive our behaviour along with our relationships with colleagues, partners, stakeholders, and of course the people we support and their whānau.

About the role | He korerowhakamaramamoteneituranga

As a Positive Behaviour Support Planner, you will be responsible for providing support to people, both adults and children, with disabilities, and their family/whānau, to enable them to live independent lives by developing and maintaining positive behaviour. You will provide training and coaching to Support Workers to use effective strategies to promote positive behaviours and quality of life for those we support.

To be successful in this role, you will have a passion for utilising your previous experience within the mental health, disability, or education sector to provide support and training. You'll thrive in a role where no two days are ever the same and you see different tasks as challenges that will build healthier, happier communities. Getting stuck in is in the nature of the team, and you'll get plenty of support, guidance, and fun in return.

This role is based in Palmerston North, permanent - part time, 20 hours per week - Monday - Thursday (5 hours per day).

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing positive behaviour support coaching, resources, and on-the-spot observations to the service team to better the lives of the people we work with.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of safety plans and behaviour support plans for people we support, as required.
  • Engaging with the people we support, their family/whānau, and support networks to ensure that their safety and quality of life is improved, and the safety and effectiveness of our support workers is protected.
  • Working closely with Service Delivery colleagues in your area to provide integrated disability and healthcare services to the people we support.
  • Achieving service delivery standards and quality performance indicators for your services.

What you will bring | Ngatohungatangamoteneituranga

  • Minimum three years' experience within disability, mental health, or education with a strong understanding of the sector.
  • Experience working with those who display challenging behaviour, including intellectual disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), etc.
  • An understanding of EGL principles.
  • Previous knowledge and training on Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) principles preferable, but for the right candidate, we will support you to undergo BILD PBS training.
  • A professional, passionate attitude, and you value constant training, guidance, and teamwork.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills, and highly developed emotional intelligence.
  • A full, clean NZ driver's license.
