Duty Operations Manager - Conservation Learning

Auckland Zoo is a community-serving cultural organisation with a mission to 'bring people together to build a future for wildlife'. Through science, learning & training, and strengthening our relationship with Te Ao Māori, we strive for excellence in animal care & welfare, conserve wildlife in the wild and nurture a lifelong connection with nature to enhance the well-being of our communities.

We are looking for a Duty Operations Manager - Conservation Learning to join the Conservation Advocacy and Engagement Department.

This multifaceted role reports to the Conservation Learning and Community Engagement Manager and has 7 Conservation Learning Facilitators/Conservation Learning Facilitators (Kaupapa Māori) direct reports.

The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the delivery, growth, and strategic direction of Auckland Zoo's conservation learning programmes. This includes overseeing the day-to-day operations of onsite, online, and outreach learning initiatives, while supporting broader advocacy and engagement goals. The role requires a strong focus on delivering both mission and financial outcomes, team leadership, and cross-team collaboration.

It is essential that you have:

  • A teaching qualification or equivalent proven teaching or training experience
  • A university degree in natural or social science or another relevant field

In addition, we are looking for candidates with the following attributes:

  • More than 2 years of teaching or training experience in either a formal or informal setting
  • Highly motivated and enjoy managing a team of people with diverse projects and programmes
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of conservation education and the relevant New Zealand curricula in developing, delivering and evaluating to diverse audiences and from early childhood to tertiary levels
  • Experience in people and operational management
  • Experience delivering on financial and mission-driven KPIs within an education/learning context
  • Committed to continuing to strengthen their relationship with Te Ao Māori

Salary range: $80 – 90k per annum, based on skillset and experience.
