Quality Control/Lab Technician

Sitting within the Hynds Group, Waters & Farr Limited is a market leading New Zealand manufacturer of quality polyethylene and polypropylene pipe systems. Waters & Farr is a place where people matter, where we do what's right and where we connect with our customers.
Based at our Whanganui Manufacturing Site, we are looking for a full-time Quality focused Technician to assist our production team to meet our ongoing quality standards and requirements. You will be responsible for quality testing for both internal and external customers with a strong focus on continuous improvement in achieving quality product. Ultimately, your success will rely on keeping our customers happy while working effectively and efficiently within the wider Waters & Farr team.
Key Responsibilities
- Post-production testing of pipes and their joints (e.g. Hydrostatic pressure testing, thermal stability, reversion, butt weld and fitting joint testing)
- Testing using measuring equipment including materials composition testing (OIT)
- Documenting results including client reports
- Calibration and verification of measurement equipment and identification of practical opportunities to improve testing processes
- Liaising with external and internal customers
- Assisting in identifying training needs of team members and coordinating and providing quality related training
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Able to work both individually and as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail
- Competent computer skills, able to use laboratory test software
- A strong and positive attitude towards continuous improvement
- Previous experience in maintaining and supporting quality standards and compliance, preferably within a manufacturing facility
- Experience in plastics is preferred but not essential
- Competence in operating measuring equipment e.g. vernier calliper, micrometers, pressure and temperature gauges is required
- Knowledge and experience in crane operation is essential along with a full Drivers Licence; Forklift licence and experience is desirable
- Able to manage medium weight manual handling activity (carrying and loading samples)
