Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand Matamata College Full time

Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Certificated teacher

Social sciences

Matamata College is a Y9-13 state secondary school in Matamata, Waikato. We have a proud history of student achievement since 1918. Our school is at the hub of our local community which is as rich in history as it is diverse. A strong rural base has given rise to many successful and varied businesses. We have a valued association with local iwi Ngāti Hinerangi, Ngāti Hauā and Raukawa.

We are looking for an engaging and culturally responsive teacher with a genuine passion for working with young people and staff, and the ability to contribute positively to the social science learning area. This is a permanent, full-time position.

The successful applicant will be willing to teach commerce, economics, and accounting and, ideally, have the capability to teach junior business studies and social studies.

Our Social Science department is a positive and supportive team that values collaboration. We work closely together on developing our junior units and are keen to hear new ideas and diversify and enhance our practice.

Being collaborative, organised, and relational is essential for working effectively as part of our team. The role also involves catering to a wide range of learning needs, with a focus on supporting students to develop their literacy and numeracy skills in the Social Sciences.

Cultural responsivity is also key to this role, as is commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Mana ōrite mō te Mātauranga Māori. We value our school's relationships with our three local iwi and wish to develop our local curriculum throughout our learning area.

A willingness to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school is also encouraged.
