Medium sized accounting firms have thrived over the past 10 years, and really excelled in the advisory space. The client base is diverse and active, leaning on the BAS team to deliver on advisory projects and help out with technical compliance. The steady workflow in advisory and consulting projects constitutes a significant portion of the firm's activities. The team here take on the responsibility for managing and servicing their own clients, supported by experienced managers and partners.

The Position

This is a hands-on advisory position where you will have your own client portfolio and be expected to engage with them and manage the relationships. You'll have autonomy here, but support from the partners is also very accessible.

This role will have a focus on reviewing work prepared by your team and managing workflow for those you are helping to train.

There's a big variety of clients from industries like technology (start-ups), financial services, construction, retail, HNWI, and investments with turnovers typically from $10M - $30M with larger clients above $100M. There is IFRS reporting to do with some clients.

Your core advisory responsibilities would be budgeting and forecasting, strategy consulting/business planning, monthly management reporting, board reporting, and IFRS accounts. There is also compliance, but at a high level.

Your clients will lean on you for tax advice and structuring, and you'll have the support of the partners for anything tax-technical.

Whilst this firm values collaboration, there are still options to work from home 2 days for week that most of the team use.

About you

There are some key skills here that would make you effective in this position.

  • Previous experience in a NZ CA firm at a manager level
  • Strong communication skills, as you will be working closely with a variety of clients, and a team
  • Ideally CA/CPA qualified, with IFRS experience being a 'nice to have'
  • A drive to see your clients thrive
