Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand Christchurch City Council Full time

Christchurch City Council is developing a culture where continuous improvement is an inherent part of every-day life within the organisation - the way we do things here.

The Continuous Improvement (CI) programme sits alongside the Smart Christchurch programme in the Innovation and Improvement Unit, and supports the Council in delivering excellent citizen, customer and community services through improving our effectiveness, our efficiency, and our capability. The benefits of these improvements will, over time, be experienced by our teams, Council customers and the wider community.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

The key priorities for this role will be providing analytical insights and data models, with the CI Team, to inform strategy and prioritisation to deliver customer and business benefits and influence change within and across business units. You will be involved in both large end-to-end projects and programmes and tactical improvements in conjunction with CI Specialists to identify opportunities and synergies, reinforcing strategy and innovation. Some of these projects will have an Artificial Intelligence component and you will need to stay up to date with the applications, opportunities, risks and advancements in AI globally. You will be kept on your toes as you communicate and liaise with Council suppliers and staff at all levels of the organisation to influence the desired improvement outcomes.

Along with your skills in analytical modelling you will be able to confidently promote and develop a continuous improvement culture across the organisation, including:

  • Presenting findings and recommendations with autonomy and communicate these to sponsors and key stakeholders
  • Coaching and supporting project team members in the use of tools and methodologies
  • Challenging stakeholders to maximise intelligence in their decision making to promote and embed change
  • Identifying improvement opportunities and analysing improvement ideas from the business for strategic insights
  • Coaching and guiding the business to document business processes, business rules and metrics as part of improvement initiatives
  • Coaching and supporting the business to employ intelligence and insights in their decision making
  • If you're an experienced continuous improvement professional with skills in Python and data modelling, join our team today.

What's in it for you? He aha ngā hua ki a koe?

Working for the Christchurch City Council allows you to contribute directly to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents and visitors. You will also benefit from:

  • Access to training programmes, workshops, and development opportunities
  • Flexible working arrangements - WFH, adjustable start and finish times, option to purchase extra leave.
  • Collaboration - exposure to wider areas of the organisation
  • Benefits - a variety of benefits for Council staff from health schemes to retail discounts.

Through collaboration, innovation, and a strong commitment to community, the council provides an environment where one's skills and passions can shine, making it an exceptional choice for those seeking purpose and impact in their career.

At the Christchurch City Council, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. We understand that recruitment processes can be challenging. If you require any support or adjustments to help you put your best foot forward, please reach out to us at jobs@ccc.govt.nz
