The role will work with our global team of outstanding professionals, consultants and engineers to provide our clients expert, independent advice, as well as providing our team with your expertise and mentoring. Your skills that bring the biggest impact:

PSC is seeking a full-time Principal Studies Engineer with power industry experience to carry out dynamic study projects across the generation, transmission, and distribution sectors. Candidates' primary expertise should be in power system analysis and studies that model the behaviour of power systems and their various components under steady state and dynamic conditions.

Reporting to the Manager, Power Network Solutions, the Principal Engineer will:

  • Carry out dynamic GPS technical studies, including load flow, short circuit, and stability analysis.
  • Understand and articulate energy market conditions across Australia and New Zealand, and can demonstrate experience with NEM, AEMO, and EA.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop junior consultants.
  • Manage deliverables, schedules, and budgets for client projects and studies.
  • Manage client expectations through regular communications and responsiveness.
  • Coordinate workflows with PSC colleagues around the world.
  • Ability to travel between Australia and New Zealand, occasionally working evenings and weekends as needed for special assignments.

We'd love you to have:

  • 10+ years of experience in power system analysis in generation, transmission, and/or distribution systems.
  • Previous experience mentoring and guiding team members.
  • Highly proficient user of PSS/E and PSCAD network simulation software. PowerFactory experience would also be looked on favorably.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and exceed client expectations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – in particular, established habits of clear and unambiguous email and technical document writing, and an ability to present an argument clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent presentation skills to represent PSC in industry forums, working groups, and conferences as well as client presentations.
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering is required, with higher degrees looked upon favorably.

At PSC it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role - we want you to come in and grow, not feel like you're at the top of your grade with no scope to have a career. As compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, and this role is dependent on the individual's attributes, a reasonable estimate of the current range (dependent on candidate experience) is:

$155,000 NZD to $255,000 NZD

PSC is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. PSC is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.
