Minimum Requirements
  • Special Medical Practitioner Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in the area of Specialist Psychiatry.
  • At least 5+ years recent experience as a Psychiatrist working in Adult General and Forensic Mental Health.
  • Able and willing to work with lower socio-economic groups and socially isolated clients.
  • Able to commit at least 2-3 years.
  • A high level of organisational skills and energy.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment where exceptional service and customer satisfaction are a key element of the company's brand.
  • Comfortable taking initiative in prioritising numerous and varied tasks.
  • Excellent communications and team orientated work skills.
  • Personal commitment to high standards of medical practice and demonstrated capacity to work both autonomously and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong commitment to continuing medical education, both as a teacher and in one's own professional development.
Primary Duties
  • To provide clinical care which is patient centred, and promotes dignity and respect of patients.
  • A commitment to provide recovery focused care and treatment.
  • To involve patient family, whanau, caregiver, significant others in planning and provision of care including discharge.
  • To provide a consultation service to other consultants with the Client's and other Non-Governmental providers.
  • To contribute to the development of the Regional Forensic Service in line with national guidelines and the Client's.
  • To develop with Unit Manager, Clinical Service Manager and Director, clinical performance objectives and criteria.
  • To understand the Mental Health Act 1992 (and Amendment Act 1999), the Criminal Procedure (Mentally Impaired Person's) Act 2003, The Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and The Alcohol and Drug Addiction Act 1996.
  • Maintain Liaison with Department of Corrections, Judiciary and Legal Services.
  • To provide comprehensive assessment in the form of Court ordered reports, Mental Health Assessment, Risk Assessment, Client and Special Patient Reviews.
  • To assist in the professional development of registrars, junior medical officers, and other staff employed in the Forensic and Mental Health Service.
  • To assist in the supervision of registrars and junior medical officers.
  • To provide undergraduate and postgraduate teaching to all health professionals of lesser skill, knowledge or experience.
  • To be responsible for own professional development.
  • Involvement in Peer Review, Clinical Auditing, and other forms of quality improvement.
  • To participate in Accreditation and Quality initiatives undertaken by the Client's.
  • Involvement in the strategic and operational planning of the Client's Mental Health Practice Group.
  • To promote the Client's Mental Health Group objectives.
  • Involvement in the Client's Health and Safety programme.
